Connected Accounts
Link or unlink your Google account, and understand what happens to already-synced data when you disconnect.
Overview
Remy connects to one external service today: Google. The connection covers both authentication (sign in with Google) and data (Google Contacts sync).
Manage the link from Settings → Integrations.
Linking Google
If you signed up with email, click Connect Google under Settings → Integrations. Remy sends you to Google to grant permission, then walks you through a brief onboarding wizard to choose between bidirectional and read-only sync. Once you confirm, the first sync runs and your contacts start populating.
If you signed up with Google, the link is already in place from sign-up — there's no extra step. Settings → Integrations shows the connected account and the active sync mode.
For details on what each sync mode does, see Google Sync.
Switching Sync Modes
Switching between bidirectional and read-only happens from the same Settings → Integrations card. Click Switch sync mode and Remy re-prompts Google for the matching permission — bidirectional needs Google's contacts (write) permission; read-only only needs read access.
Nothing changes inside Remy until Google confirms. If you cancel the prompt at Google, your existing mode stays in place.
Unlinking Google
Click Disconnect under Settings → Integrations to remove the link.
| What happens | What stays |
|---|---|
| New changes in Google no longer flow to Remy. | Every contact already synced stays in your contact book. |
| Edits in Remy no longer push to Google (was bidirectional). | All your notes, tags, and "introduced by" links are preserved. |
| The hourly background sync stops for this account. | The contacts become read-only history — you can read and re-tag them, but identity edits won't reach Google. |
Disconnecting does not delete any of your Remy data. If you reconnect later, sync resumes from your current state — Remy reconciles by re-checking each contact against Google on the next run.
The disconnect itself is recorded in your Activity Log as Google Disconnected.
Pending Merges After Reconnecting
If you disconnect, change something on Google's side (delete a contact, change an email), and reconnect, the next sync may surface new pending merges or missing contacts. Remy's reconciliation isn't time-travel — it works from the state Google has now, not from a memory of what you had before.
If a contact you remember having is gone after reconnecting, the most likely explanation is that it was removed in Google during the disconnected period.
What's Not Connected
Remy does not connect to:
- Google Calendar
- Gmail / email inboxes
- Any CRM, productivity, or messaging tool
If you want to feed information from any of those into Remy, the path today is manual — write a note. Calendar and email integrations are deliberately out of scope for v1.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I link multiple Google accounts?
Not today. One Google account per Remy user. To switch which Google account is linked, disconnect first, then reconnect.
Will disconnecting delete my contacts?
No. Already-synced contacts stay in Remy as-is. You'll keep all your notes, tags, and "introduced by" links. Only the live link to Google is severed.
What if I sign in with Google but disconnect the Google integration?
Sign-in continues to work — the Google integration covers both authentication and contacts sync, but disconnect only severs the contacts link. You can still sign in with the same Google account on your next visit.
Does unlinking remove Remy from my Google account permissions?
Not quite. Disconnecting in Remy stops Remy from using the permission, but the permission grant in Google's account settings stays until you revoke it there. To fully revoke, visit myaccount.google.com → Security → Third-party apps with account access.
